ACL problems we help with

ACL rehab is one of the most common long-term injuries we see, from weekend footballers to elite athletes.

  • A recent ACL tear. A twisting knee injury, often with a pop, quick swelling and a knee that feels unstable.
  • After ACL reconstruction. Rehab from the first weeks after surgery right through to return to sport.
  • ACL rehab without surgery. A structured strength programme for people managing their knee without an operation.

How we treat it

ACL rehab takes months, so we break it into clear stages, with tests to pass before each step.

  1. Assess

We assess swelling, movement, strength and how your knee copes with load, and follow your surgeon's protocol if you've had an operation.

  2. Treat

Early work on swelling, straightening and bending the knee, and getting you walking normally again.

  3. Strengthen

Progressive gym-based strength, running, jumping and change-of-direction work, with return-to-sport testing before you go back.

When to book

Book as soon as you can after a knee injury, before ACL surgery to prepare, or once your surgeon says physio can start.

Get urgent medical advice first if your knee is hot, red and very swollen, you have calf pain and swelling after surgery, or you can't put any weight through your leg. Contact your GP or surgical team, or call 111.
